Me & Milo The Great ★★★★★

4.5 stars

Okay wow, this book was so good I can’t. You know when you read part of a book and then when you put it down you keep thinking about it anyway? This is one of those books because wow the characters are just amazing and the story is so engrossing.

*I was sent this book by the author, Michelle Schlicher, in exchange for an honest review and this in no way affected my review in any way*

This book comes out on September 14th, 2017

Goodreads Summary:

My name is Holiday Sanchez. I carry a heavy burden.

But I’m not the only one.

There are others who know what it feels like to remember. Maybe they are the answer. Maybe we can help each other. Maybe I’ll finally get past it.

Maybe it just takes time—and a little bit of magic.

My Review:

At first, I thought this book was weird because it’s written kind of like a memoir but it’s really something amazing. This book has long chapters and I really did like that even though I prefer to stop reading at the end of a chapter. Long chapters just mean that I end up reading for longer and that’s something I really like doing when the book is amazing.

Holiday is a character that I couldn’t really connect with because I’ve never experienced a trauma like that but I related to her anxiety and love for her cat. This is the second book that I’ve read about a trauma like this and both of them were hard hitting stories that took over my mind for the week after I read it. This is the kind of book with the power to put you into a book slump because of how quickly it takes over your thoughts. I say this with admiration, of course, only the best books have the ability to do such a thing.

I really liked the fact that Milo was a bad magician but he still never gave up because it was something that he loved to do. When Milo was introduced I was a little skeptical but he really did grow on me within the first few chapters that he was in. He ended up becoming an amazing character that I loved reading about. I also loved who he became to Holiday.

I will say that the twist in the story was something thought about but I still loved the reveal and how Holiday dealt with it. I also love the fact that there was an epilogue to show how they lived after everything was revealed. It’s definitely one of my favorite things that an author can do and I’m so happy that this book had one.

I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary novels and likes to read about how a character recovers from a past trauma. This book is something I will recommend to more than a few people because of how much it resonated with me and I can definitely see plenty of people enjoying it.

The Last of August (Charlotte Holmes #2) ★★★★☆

4 stars

I wasn’t entirely sure I was going to read this book when I finished the first one but when I saw it at Target the next day I figured why not. I really did enjoy this book more than the first one but it still wasn’t an absolutely amazing book if that makes any senses.

I also thought I would recommend the audio I was listening to while I was writing this because it is amazing. Not only is it calming but there are a multitude of videos that anyone could listen to.

Books I Want to Read This Summer

Now, these are both books and series that I hope I’ll be able to read this coming summer! I am going to Scotland/Ireland this summer so I’m going to have a lot of time to read between the plane rides and long drives. I didn’t really put any descriptions or any reasoning behind any of the books but there isn’t really a reason behind each book. I just really want to read some interesting books, but of course, I didn’t want them all to be from a series so I added some contemporary books to the list.

I did receive the entire Whispers of the Fallen series (the companion book included) from J. D. Netto in exchange for a review so I will be posting a review of all four books at some point in the future!

A Study in Charlotte ★★★★☆

3.5 stars

It’s not this book wasn’t good but it just wasn’t amazing. It was just an eh book for me but I did enjoy reading it. I think I might pick up the next book in the trilogy (edit: I have in fact picked it up) but that might not actually happen because of how many books I want to read.

I also include some small trigger warnings towards the end of the review because I wasn’t exactly prepared for it to come up.

Lola ★★★★☆

4.5 stars

It took me a while to start this book but once I did I couldn’t stop reading it! It only took me two days to finish but to be honest, I could have read it in one sitting. I loved the idea of this book and I was really happy about how the author dealt with the main character being the leader of a gang. I am also going to include trigger warnings at the end of this review because there were some things in the book that I was not prepared for.

*I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review. Receiving this book in exchange for an honest review did not affect my opinions in any way. All opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way.*

A Court of Wings and Ruin ★★★★★

4.85 stars

This book was so good I devoured it. I just couldn’t stop reading it and I loved it. The only complaint I have is that the pages are so thin. Like hi no I want a thick book with nice pages (not that the pages aren’t nice but ya’know). This book was fast paced and I’m really happy that it ended up being a total of 705. I know this is the last book with Feyre and Rhysand as the main characters but I cannot wait for the novellas to come out next year!

I’ve made this review 100% spoiler free for this book in the series but if you haven’t read the first 2 books I would recommend against reading this review.

Strange the Dreamer ★★★★★

4.75 stars

Not only is the outside of this book gorgeous but the inside is stunning as well. The only reason I didn’t give it a full 5 stars is because the beginning was a little hard to get into for me but that was because of what I was doing so. If I had to give it a full star rating it would totally get 5 stars. I really cannot wait to read The Muse of Nightmares when it comes out in 2018!
