Select ★★★★☆

4.5 stars

Publish date October 3rd

So once I got into this book it was like I couldn’t stop reading. Every time there was a break in my day I would pull out my phone so I could continue the story. Not only was this book interesting, it also had an interesting romance that was realistic. I will say that the beginning of this book is a little bit slow but once you get passed the 50-page mark it really picks up. Most of this review will be spoiler free but the last paragraph will have spoilers (but I will make it obvious).

ink ★★★☆☆

3.5 stars

This book was actually really good and I think that it was a really good impulse buy. This book is obviously beautiful and it was surprising how good it was from how little I knew about it. I read the entire book on a 7-hour plane ride and it was definitely engrossing.

Goodreads Summary:

Every action, every deed, every significant moment is tattooed on your skin forever. When Leora’s father dies, she is determined to see her father remembered forever. She knows he deserves to have all his tattoos removed and made into a Skin Book to stand as a record of his good life. But when she discovers that his ink has been edited and his book is incomplete, she wonders whether she ever knew him at all.

My review:

So this book was one that once I started it I didn’t really want to stop reading. Sometimes when I read a book on the plane it gets boring because I know I have no other options when it comes to reading but that wasn’t the case for this book at all.

I really liked reading about the main character, Leora, because she is interesting and she learns more about her government and society as the book goes on. Leora thinks about things a certain way in the beginning of the book and towards the end, it is obvious how much she has grown. I love reading about characters who have a problematic idea in the beginning but they learn more about it and then their view changes. To me, this is just a fictional example of how people are always able to be educated on something and then have their values changed for the better.

I couldn’t really give this book more than three full stars because this book wasn’t mindblowing or anything, it was just plain good. There’s nothing wrong with this book but I can definitely see it being used as something to help get over a book slump because of how light it is.

I don’t know if there are going to be any more books in the series because there’s nothing mentioned on Goodreads but I might be interested in reading the other two books that are apparently going to come out in the future. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a book that they can just read without much effort because this is definitely a book you can just pick up. It’s also something you can just pick up, put down and then pick it up again without much trouble.

What Cats Do Book Tag

I found another really cute tag and I thought why not do it! I’m finally done with school for the summer and I can put more time into this blog and my bookstagram!! I hope everyone has a good summer and that you all remember to drink a ton of water because dehydration isn’t fun.

I tag anyone who wants to do this tag and if you do decide to do it make sure in tag me so I can read your answers!

Rules

PURR – AS CATS DO THIS WHEN THEY’RE HAPPY OR RELAXED, WHAT IS THE BOOK THAT MAKES YOU HAPPIEST OR RELAXED?

17927395

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas is definitely a book that I go back to when I just need something happy or calming to read. Most of the time I will skip to scenes I have marked but other times I know that if I just flip to a random page that I will love whatever is there.

SLEEP – WHAT IS A BOOK THAT PUT YOU TO SLEEP OR WAS JUST BORING?

220px-golden_son_2015

Goldon Son by Pierce Brown wasn’t exactly putting me to sleep but it just wasn’t interesting enough for me to read it all in one go. I loved Red Rising and I started this book with high hopes but gosh did it fall flat. This book just couldn’t keep me interested in the plot or the characters.

TWITCH WHILE DREAMING – HAVE YOU EVER DREAMT OF A BOOK YOU READ?

harry_potter_and_the_sorcerers_stone

I probably have had dreams about every Harry Potter book at some point in time. I do remember some from Harry’s first year at Hogwarts though.

SEEMS TO PLAY NICE…UNTIL THE CLAWS ARE OUT – WHICH BOOK HAD THE BIGGEST PLOT TWIST?

red_queen_book_cover

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard was a book that I didn’t see the major plot twist coming and I think that is still why I continue to read this series.

CUDDLES – WHICH BOOK CHARACTER WOULD YOU GIVE A HUG TO?

Six-of-Crows

Nina from Six of Crows because what happened to her at the end of Crooked Kingdom definitely calls for a hug.

CATNIP – WHAT’S A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAVE WARM AND FUZZY FEELS?

The One by Kiera Cass was just such a light-hearted book that it gave me such warm feelings. Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch, was just a cute contemporary that was a fluffy read.

CAT BREEDS – WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS?

I’m just going to list a few but I have a ton. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas, City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner, The Sun is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon and Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

GETTING THE CAT- HOW DID YOU FIND YOUR FAVORITE BOOK(S).

Sometimes I will find them through Booktube or Goodreads but I mainly just go to a bookstore and spend a few hours reading the blurbs from books and then checking some reviews. I also notice books that I’ve seen on Bookstagram and that helps me find a place to start my book buying.

THE VET’S OFFICE – YOUR LEAST FAVORITE BOOK:

I couldn’t really pick just one book for this because I dislike both of these books to almost the same extent. I’m not going to explain why I tend to dislike these books or else this post would be incredibly long.

BEING IN PLACES THEY SHOULDN’T – LEAST FAVORITE CLICHE:

I hate when the author uses love as a cure for everything that the main character is going through. The main character might be having a hard time with something but once they meet this boy (normally how it works in what I’ve read), everything gets better and if she needs to, she can now save the world. It’s just not interesting to read and it isn’t realistic in the slightist. If I’m reading a contemporary book with no fantasy, I want to read about a realistic love story.

FINAL QUESTION: THE GOOD OLD CARDBOARD BOX – MOST UNDERRATED BOOK SERIES:

25474267

I found The Gifting series by K. E. Ganshert while looking through the free E-books on the iBook app. This series is definitely one that I’ve seen very few people talk about but it is amazing!

Norse Mythology ★★★★☆

4 stars

I bought this book with the intention of reading it slowly and in between other books but once I started it I decided that I needed to read it all. The book itself isn’t long so I read it in three days because I read it only at night but I’m sure this is the type of book that you can read in one day.

I’d also like to say sorry for not posting on Thursday like I normally do. I have my ap environmental exam on May 1st so I’ve spend a large majority of my time studying for that. I will have a review up on Tuesday but from then on I think most of my posts will be book tags and they probably will be shorter. My last exam will be on May 10th and so after that, I will definitely have time to write some more reviews! This, of course, is all what I think is going to happen and maybe I’ll write a review before my final exam but I thought I would at least tell everyone.

Golden Son (Red Rising #2) ★★★★☆

3.5 stars

I don’t know what it was about this book but it just took me forever to get though. It wasn’t that this book was bad but it just didn’t hold my attention. I’ve just lost interest in the trilogy and sadly I don’t think that I will be reading the last book.

I will mention that there are minor spoilers in this review but they are incredibly small and they are surrounded by bolded words. Feel free to read around these areas because they aren’t very big and if you do happen to read them it wouldn’t spoil the entire book for you!

The Bone Witch ★★★★☆

3.5 stars

I really enjoyed this book and how at the end of every chapter it was set in the present while the rest of the chapter was her telling her story. I think it was the best way to tell the story and made put you in the same position as the man hearing the story for the first time.

*I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review and that fact in no way affected my review in any way*
