Creatures of the Night Book Tag

This tag was started on Youtube by one of my favorite Booktubers, Katytastic. I thought it was interesting so I figured that it would be cool to do. Some of these were hard to come up with an answer to but I eventually figured each one out! I tag anyone who’s reading this to do this tag if they’re interested!

Also! This is my 100th post!! I can’t believe that I’ve posted so many book related things and I’m so happy you’ve all joined me and for the most part enjoyed reading what I write.

Basically, for each category, you need to choose a book that features the creature and if you feel like it you can talk about which creature is your favorite from that book.

Vampire

51kU0BML-pL._SX330_BO1,204,203,200_

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead and I absolutely love Rose and some might call that a cop out because she’s the main character but still, shes great.

Werewolf

city_of_bones1

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare because of Luke and Maia!!

Zombie

Warm_bodies_book_cover

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion is one of the only books that I can think of that I’ve read with zombies in it.

Ghost

23150980

Ghost Trapper by Ellie Jordan. I read this book on my phone and I really enjoyed hearing about the ghosts and them hunting them!

Witch/Wizard/Warlock

TBC_cover

The Bane Chronicles/The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare because of the fabulous Magnus Bane whom I love deeply.

Fairy/Fey

I love Tithe by Holly Black! It’s not about happy fey but really the darker side of them and I really liked gaining that new perspective. Of course, I had to mention ACOTAR by Sarah J. Maas because it’s all about fey and it’s amazing!!!

Demon

MissPeregrineCover.jpg

The demons in Mrs. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs were really interesting to read about.

Angel

51z+dDB4n5L._SX332_BO1,204,203,200_

Angelfall by Susan Ee! This book is what I assume many people chose because of how prevalent an angelic character was throughout the book.

Alien

12578077

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout! This is definitely the first book that comes to mind when anyone mentions aliens so how could I not pick it! I love Daemon and his family so they were a pretty obvious choice.

Superpowered Human

517rXhN68PL._SX334_BO1,204,203,200_

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson! This is a very good Middle-Grade series and I really liked the world and the superheroes that lived in it.

Our Dark Duet (Monsters of Verity #2)

5 stars

Oh my gosh this book killed me. I loved the first book and I can’t believe that this book was able to be just as amazing. I read this book in two days and it became one of those books that you just can’t stop reading. Every time I would put it down I wanted to start reading it again. It became an itch that I could only scratch by reading and I really loved that about this book.

Goodreads Summary:

The world is breaking. And so are they.

Kate Harker isn’t afraid of monsters. She hunts them. And she’s good at it.

August Flynn once yearned to be human. He has a part to play. And he will play it, no matter the cost.

The war has begun.

The monsters are winning.

Kate will have to return to Verity. August will have to let her back in. And a new monster is waiting—one that feeds on chaos and brings out its victims’ inner demons.

Which will be harder to conquer: the monsters they face, or the monsters within?

My Review:

The characters in this book were ones that I had fallen in love throughout This Savage Song and so coming back to these people that I hadn’t read about in a while was amazing. To me, it was like hearing from a friend that you had fallen out of touch with. Kate and August are definitely memorable characters and I really love their dynamic together.

I love the fact that the new villains aren’t really all that new because they were either mentioned in the previous book or they stem from a loved character. Sloan is an evil dude but I like reading about him because he is a monster. He is made from evil so it only makes sense that he is in turn evil. He is written in such an amazing way because he is made to seem evil but not to the point where he is crazy. He knows what he wants and he knows just how to get it.

I do think that the side characters in this book were a little lacking in the character development department. To me, it just seemed like they weren’t important and because of that, I didn’t really care when someone would die or be put into danger. That being said, I did still enjoy hearing about what new people August became “friends” with while Kate was gone.

I would really recommend this duology to anyone who likes monsters and a fantasy world that doesn’t require a large amount of brain power to understand. I mean that in the way that there are no serious magic laws that the reader must understand before they understand the book. This book does have a large amount of violent killing, more than the first book so I will give that warning to anyone planning to read it. I’ve already recommended this book to multiple people and will probably continue to do so.

Book Buying Habits Tag

Hello Hello, time for another book tag that has absolutely no pictures 😦 I put a gif or two in but there really wasn’t any way for me to make this more fun and that sucks. I did include links to the websites that I talked about but other than that it’s pretty straight forward. I hope you enjoy the tag and I tag anyone who wants to do this!

Where do you buy your books from?

I normally buy my books from Barnes and Noble because I have a membership there and I just love the atmosphere so every time I go in I end up picking up a book. I also order books from Amazon and Bookoutlet quite frequently. I will very rarely buy a book or two from Books-a-million because it’s the closest bookstore to me and sometimes they have good books on sale.

Do you ever pre-order books and if so, do you do this in-store or online?

I love pre-ordering books and I always do it through Amazon because then I get the book on the day it comes out!

On average, how many books do you buy a month?

It depends on the month really but it can be anywhere from 2 to 10. It’s defiantly higher if I order from Bookoutlet because you really can’t beat the deals.

Do you use your local library?

I do, not as much as I used to but I do still go sometimes.

If so, how many do you borrow at a time?

I always say that I’m only going to check out one or two but I always find books that I’ve been dying to read so sometimes I’ll walk out with anywhere from two to eight books. I think the most I’ve checked out at one time was about 15 and that was because it was summer break and the only library around was the one at school.

What’s your opinion on library books?

I love them a lot. They are always kept in such good condition and you can always leave recommendations on the shelves.

How do you feel about charity shop/second-hand books?

Literally the greatest thing! You can find such great books in second-hand shops for such a good price.

Do you keep your read and TBR pile together/on the same bookshelf or not?

I do because the way I organize my shelf is to keep authors together and to keep hardcovers together so in order to do so it gets kind of messy. But messy in a good way that works for me.

Do you plan to read all the books you own?

I wish I could say yes but as of right now there are just some books that I don’t think I’ll ever get to or ever really want to.

What do you do with books that you own and that you’ll feel you’ll never read/enjoy?

I either sell them to a local used bookstore or I donate them to the library for the used book sales that they have fairly often.

Have you ever donated books?

Yes, I’ve donated a crap ton of books. To be honest, it makes me feel a little better when I buy books because I know that I’ll actually have room for them.

Do you feel like you buy too many books?

Hmm that’s actually a pretty hard question because sometimes I do but then other times I won’t buy a book for three weeks and I can step back to say that I don’t buy that many. In the grand scheme of things I probably do buy a decent amount more than I should.

What Cats Do Book Tag

I found another really cute tag and I thought why not do it! I’m finally done with school for the summer and I can put more time into this blog and my bookstagram!! I hope everyone has a good summer and that you all remember to drink a ton of water because dehydration isn’t fun.

I tag anyone who wants to do this tag and if you do decide to do it make sure in tag me so I can read your answers!

Rules

PURR – AS CATS DO THIS WHEN THEY’RE HAPPY OR RELAXED, WHAT IS THE BOOK THAT MAKES YOU HAPPIEST OR RELAXED?

17927395

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas is definitely a book that I go back to when I just need something happy or calming to read. Most of the time I will skip to scenes I have marked but other times I know that if I just flip to a random page that I will love whatever is there.

SLEEP – WHAT IS A BOOK THAT PUT YOU TO SLEEP OR WAS JUST BORING?

220px-golden_son_2015

Goldon Son by Pierce Brown wasn’t exactly putting me to sleep but it just wasn’t interesting enough for me to read it all in one go. I loved Red Rising and I started this book with high hopes but gosh did it fall flat. This book just couldn’t keep me interested in the plot or the characters.

TWITCH WHILE DREAMING – HAVE YOU EVER DREAMT OF A BOOK YOU READ?

harry_potter_and_the_sorcerers_stone

I probably have had dreams about every Harry Potter book at some point in time. I do remember some from Harry’s first year at Hogwarts though.

SEEMS TO PLAY NICE…UNTIL THE CLAWS ARE OUT – WHICH BOOK HAD THE BIGGEST PLOT TWIST?

red_queen_book_cover

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard was a book that I didn’t see the major plot twist coming and I think that is still why I continue to read this series.

CUDDLES – WHICH BOOK CHARACTER WOULD YOU GIVE A HUG TO?

Six-of-Crows

Nina from Six of Crows because what happened to her at the end of Crooked Kingdom definitely calls for a hug.

CATNIP – WHAT’S A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAVE WARM AND FUZZY FEELS?

The One by Kiera Cass was just such a light-hearted book that it gave me such warm feelings. Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch, was just a cute contemporary that was a fluffy read.

CAT BREEDS – WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS?

I’m just going to list a few but I have a ton. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas, City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner, The Sun is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon and Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

GETTING THE CAT- HOW DID YOU FIND YOUR FAVORITE BOOK(S).

Sometimes I will find them through Booktube or Goodreads but I mainly just go to a bookstore and spend a few hours reading the blurbs from books and then checking some reviews. I also notice books that I’ve seen on Bookstagram and that helps me find a place to start my book buying.

THE VET’S OFFICE – YOUR LEAST FAVORITE BOOK:

I couldn’t really pick just one book for this because I dislike both of these books to almost the same extent. I’m not going to explain why I tend to dislike these books or else this post would be incredibly long.

BEING IN PLACES THEY SHOULDN’T – LEAST FAVORITE CLICHE:

I hate when the author uses love as a cure for everything that the main character is going through. The main character might be having a hard time with something but once they meet this boy (normally how it works in what I’ve read), everything gets better and if she needs to, she can now save the world. It’s just not interesting to read and it isn’t realistic in the slightist. If I’m reading a contemporary book with no fantasy, I want to read about a realistic love story.

FINAL QUESTION: THE GOOD OLD CARDBOARD BOX – MOST UNDERRATED BOOK SERIES:

25474267

I found The Gifting series by K. E. Ganshert while looking through the free E-books on the iBook app. This series is definitely one that I’ve seen very few people talk about but it is amazing!

The Sims Book Tag

I end school on June 9th and I cannot wait to finally have time to spend the day reading. This summer is going to be busy for me but having reading and this blog will definitely keep my head on straight. I will be going to Ireland for two weeks so my posting schedule might change a little depending on when I have time to post and when I have internet.

I tag anyone who wants to do this tag to do so because it is really interesting and I had to think to figure out some of the answers.

The Aesthetically Pleasing Book Tag!

I am all about the aesthetic and so when I saw this tag floating around I thought it would be something nice to do. I feel bad for not putting out very many book reviews but I’ve started getting back into them!

I have finally finished all of my AP exams for the year! It’s so nice to know that they are all finished and now some of my classes will become less stressful, which is always a nice thing.
