Sleepy Hollow and other Short Stories ★★☆☆☆

2 stars

There isn’t really a description of this book because it is a set of short stories but I got this book from the September Owlcrate and I was really excited to read these classics! I’m not going to write a long review but just some thoughts on each story.

This collection of stories has such small margins and I just don’t like the formatting of everything. It made it harder to read and it didn’t flow like all the other books I enjoy reading.

Sleepy Hollow

This story sucked. This is the first time I’m actually reading it but I ended up skimming half of it. There was so much filler and description in this book that I could feel myself falling asleep. I hate saying this about Sleepy Hollow because I love the movies and TV show about it but I just couldn’t deal with this story. Maybe I’ll end up reading it again at some point but I doubt it.

Rip Van Winkle

This story wasn’t bad but I doubt I’ll ever read it again or recommend it to any of my friends. I’ve heard it referenced a lot and thought it would be much better but I ended up skim reading a large portion of it. At least the cover of this book is pretty.

The Spectre Bridegroom

I think this was actually my favorite story from this collection as it was interesting and it didn’t make me want to fall asleep while reading it. It’s a weird story and that’s probably why I ended up liking it. I could definitely see myself telling people to read this story.

The Devil and Tom Walker

This is another weird story but I didn’t like it as much as the Spectre Bridegroom. It was still interesting though. I thought the wife being hung by her apron was really funny because she was trying to hurt her husband and the devil wasn’t having any of it. The wife should have known better than to fight with Satan and she got what she deserved.

The Pride of the Village

I couldn’t finish this story and I really never want to talk about it again. I can’t think of any positives for this story and I only have three words. Don’t Bother Reading!

Old Christmas

I’m actually going to save this story for Christmas so I haven’t read it yet.
