I definitely say this everytime I do a tag but no one tagged me to do this lol. It just sounded interesting and since I haven’t had much time to read this was a nice way to take a break and write about some books that I love (or don’t love for that matter).
1. A Popular Book or series that you didn’t like.
The Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi
The covers might be beautiful but I just couldn’t get past the first book. Maybe that was because halfway through the first book I found out that I got a misprinted book and had to wait for Amazon to send me another copy. I just never bothered to pick up the second book and don’t think that I ever will.
2. A Popular Book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love.
I loved the Selection series and I’ve come across a lot of people saying that they disliked it. I will say that I haven’t read the fourth book because when I finished the third book it was a trilogy and I think it probably should have stayed that way. I wouldn’t say I love love this trilogy but I definitely enjoyed it enough to recommend it to a friend.
3. A Love Triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn ppl for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don’t like.
Okay, so this one is about who Mare Barrow ends up with in Red Queen. I will say that I have yet to read the third book but I doubt she will end up with who I want her to in the end. (SPOILERS FOR THE RED QUEEN) I know he’s evil but I really really love Maven and I wish Mare would just get on that. This might not seem logical but that’s basically how I felt throughout Glass Sword.
4. A popular book Genre that you hardly reach for.
I don’t really reach for any crime novels but I love watching shows like Criminal Minds so I always mean to pick one up, I just never do.
5. A popular or beloved character that you do not like.
To be quite honest I didn’t really care for Tris when I was reading Divergent and while watching the movies I definitely was bored by her character. She just wasn’t the character for me and I wasn’t exactly upset by the ending of Allegiant (not the movie ending because wtf was that!??!) I also didn’t really care for Four that much whoops. They were both just really boring characters and I wouldn’t want to read about them again anytime soon.
6. A popular author that you can’t seem to get into.
Rick Yancy and John Green are both authors that I can’t seem to get behind. I read the 5th Wave and it was all right but I couldn’t get into the second book and doubt I’ll ever read anything by him again.
John Green’s books are just plain and boring so I don’t think I will ever pick another one of them up.
7. A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing. (examples “lost princess”, corrupt ruler, love triangles, etc.)
I hate hate hate seeing the female “pure” main character having a slutty best friend. The author tries to show the contrast between the characters but it is just disgusting to show that wearing short shorts and having more than two boyfriends makes you a slut. It’s even worse when you throw an abusive or controlling boyfriend into the mix.
I also hate when I have to read about a girl who is seemingly the only person who can see the problems with society and then everything gets better when a “hot” guy comes into the picture. Oh and she happens to be secretly amazing at something she’s never tried before that makes everything better.
8. A popular series that you have no interest in reading.
I kind of tried to read the book Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir but I just couldn’t do it so I probably won’t read that series. I also don’t think I’ll ever read 50 Shades of Grey because I just don’t need to waste my time like that.
9. The saying goes “ he book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?
The 5th wave movie made the story more enjoyable and if they make the second book a movie I may watch it even though I won’t ever bother to read it.
I also love love love the Game of Thrones tv show! I have read most of the books but the show is just so good that I kind of prefer it a little more because I can physically see what is going on. I also like the dragons and Direwolves a lot.
